Developments in logistics
In the wake of the internationalization triggered by the
creation of the European single market, companies farm
out more and more logistics processes to specialized providers.
Outsourcing enables businesses to focus on their core
competences, and soon becomes standard practice. Freight
forwarders become logistics providers. Transport, transshipment
and warehousing are no longer separated from procurement,
production and sales, but come to be regarded as an interface
between the various functions.
